Guild Esports is seeking an innovative, forward thinking and development-focussed individual to lead the coaching of players and coaches working to maximise the potential of every participant within the Guild Academy. With pro teams competing across four major esports titles (FIFA, Rocket League, Fortnite and Valorant) the Academy will create a continuous path to pro for aspiring athletes.

This role will develop and deliver all aspects of the technical / in-game and lifestyle coaching, and coach development programmes of the Academy and Professional team’s strategic plan. The Head of Player Development will manage, co-ordinate and drive performance levels upwards within the Academy squads and online participants, as well as overseeing the development and delivery of the Guild coach education framework to Academy and pro team coaches.

This role is a key contributor to the vision and success of our teams and overall organisation. They’re a strategic thinker, skillfully driving Guild’s player development efforts. The Head of Player Development is an expert at creating engaging experiences, and is constantly seeking new ways to build and develop Guild’s player community and game title coaches.


  • Lead the development of a comprehensive in-game and lifestyle coaching curriculum ensuring players are developed holistically throughout their time with Guild
  • Build relationships across the Academy and wider organisation to enable effective support to all coaching staff and players
  • Research current trends of coaching/teaching, player development, and industry best practice to inform practice within the Academy and professional teams
  • Maintain / enhance own coaching competence through regular delivery (e.g., demonstrations, masterclass sessions and events)
  • Generate innovative ideas to build a healthy ecosystem and player community in the Academy
  • Develop and distribute management level reports to support overall Academy performance
  • Conduct relevant training needs analysis of all coaches current and required level of performance
  • Conduct a formal programme of observing coach performance and provide effective feedback for development
  • Monitor the coaching process and methodology across online and face-to-face delivery within the Academy to ensure highest standards are maintained
  • Delivery of 1-to-1 coach development support through progressive individual specific plans
  • Develop and deliver an innovative in-house Continued Professional Development program for all coaching staff
  • Build effective relations across the multi-disciplinary teams to enhance delivery of coach and player development
  • Support effective working across multi-disciplinary teams through education and promoting relevant benefits
  • Contribute appropriately to the development of teaching and coaching resources
  • Report bi-annually to the Academy Director on overall progress and development within the Academy and represent collective views on the future development and direction of the coaching program
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Graduate level, preferably with an additional post graduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Sports Coaching, Sports Psychology or Teaching)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in leadership / management roles within esports, professional sports or equivalent
  • Significant experience and expertise in performance and talent development within the sports sector
  • Experience of managing relationships and programmes in a performance, talent and coaching environment
  • Experience and knowledge in coach development, particularly in relation to talent and elite development
  • Evidence of ability to seek out new knowledge and expertise to positively influence innovative and world-leading performance, talent and coach development programmes
  • Experience and knowledge of coach education structures, delivery and evaluation
  • Expertise in developing strategy and transforming this into operational delivery
  • Outstanding communicator both written and verbal, capable of delivering to diverse audiences and to work with other members across the organisation
  • Able to interface effectively with both gamers and business people
  • Experience working effectively in a team environment with remote members
  • Able to organise thoughts and make decisions under time constraints and a full workload
  • Passionate player of video games, particularly in following titles: FIFA, Rocket League, Fortnite, Valorant and CSGO


  • Professional playing career within esports / traditional sport
  • Presentation, teaching, or other public speaking experience
  • Experience in sports or esports live video production and broadcasting
  • Experience working with athletes remotely and in a face-to-face environment
